With the downsizing of utility staffs, many utilities have lost the ability to provide quality energy auditing services to their larger or key customers. We have the energy professionals on our staff that can assist the utility with this need. AES has been the de-facto commercial and industrial auditing department for a number of electric utilities.
One of the cornerstones of AES has been its training services. AES provides marketing, technical and sales training to the staff of many utilities. Since we actually do energy audits and analysis of commercial buildings and industrial facilities, we can bring this real-world knowledge to the classroom. Our technical training includes interior and exterior lighting, HVAC, psychometrics, water heating, and building load calculations.
SMEPA - Demand Side Planning - We conducted a training session on the basics of demand side planning and it impact on the supply-side of the equation. Topics included understanding the supply side of the equation, load shape options, demand side programs that impact various load shapes, elements of DS programs and marketing DS programs.
Auburn - Psychometrics - We had an opportunity to teach a course on psychometrics - the study of air and water vapor mixtures. The course was primarily focused on HVAC design contractors and utility commercial and residential energy representatives. The course was taught at Auburn University and University of Georgia as part of ACCA certification.
Cobb EMC - HVAC– We conducted a basic HVAC course aimed at utility energy engineers to provide them with a good understanding of the various types of HVAC systems. Course covered package, split and built-up HVAC systems, simple and complex air delivery systems, control systems and the features, advantages and benefits of each.
Auburn – Load Calculations - We had an opportunity to teach courses on residential and commercial load calculations – for sizing HVAC equipment and duct design. The courses were primarily focused on HVAC design contractors and utility commercial and residential energy representatives. The course was taught at Auburn University and University of Georgia as part of ACCA certification.
AES can help utilities address their transmission, distribution and reliability issues by providing energy options to customers in problem areas. AES's distributed generation, cogeneration, demand response and energy storage projects are aimed at utilities and their customers to help control and manage energy and demand.
TVA – Program Evaluation – We were retained by TVA to research and evaluate the impacts of their energy right ©program. TVA was planning to refresh their residential energy efficiency program and retained our services to identify and evaluate program options and its impact on TVA’s load shape and its customers.
PG&E – Program Evaluation – AES has a long history of working with PG&E with their demand management and conservation programs. We were retained by PG&E to evaluate three proposed Demand Side programs – Retrofit Express, Home Energy Savings Loan and Service Agreements. The goal of the study was to evaluate the impact of these programs on the utility, its customers and its trade ally network.
Consumers Power – Demand Side Programs – AES was retained by Consumers Power to manage and implement their demand side management programs across their commercial and residential sectors. The $50 million project consisted of energy education, bill dis-aggregation, energy efficiency rebates, direct installs of weatherization measure via a blower door tests and appliance pick-ups.
